a recent purchase and halloween plans

so i was feeling down today, i figured i'd do a little bit of online retail therapy. my go to as of recently has of course been good ol' etsy. love that place! any ways...halloween  (for me at the very least) is just around the corner! i adore halloween. everything about it just sends my into a inspirational whirlwind! sketching, sewing, makuping! loooooove it!

this year, *figers crossed* i will be working at kennywood's phantom fright nights as a special effects makeup artist. so. excited. and with this new job title comes the opportunity to dress up after doing everyone else's makeup and scaring folks in and around the park for the rest of the evening. soooooo not only do i get to do makeup, get paid for it and be awesome, but i get to do my own makeup and scare people and get paid for it! yay! i've been planning my costumes already and i've done the preliminary sketches for the costumes and plan on starting my sewing with in the next few weeks. i thought you guys would enjoy seeing them...so here ya go!!

not the best photos, i know. apologies, apologies. but you get the basic idea. the one on the left is a zombie alice in wonderland and the one of the right is little red riding hood after her encounter with the wolf. its gonna be amaze-balls!!! so in addition to sewing and doing special effects on my self, i also will be doing a bit of fashion makeup along with it on myself. here comes that recent purchase i was talking about....i plan on doing some very dark eye makeup and i really wanted some nice black eyeshadow. i went to ulta and checked out some of the expensive brand, urban decay, two face, ulta brand...they had some nice shades, and i liked 3 that i found BUT they were wayyyyyyy way too much. $18 for an once of shadow. too much. i decided to check out the internets. i found noella beauty works on etsy, they have lovely shades in natural mineral makeup and i found 2 shades that i really like. so i got em'

how gorgeous are those?!?!?! i can't wait for them to come in the mail so that i can play with them and do all kinds of crazy looks! i just want to go out one night dressed up like a rocker with crazy black eye makeup, so excited!! i love the heavy metal look lately! grunge/ heavy metal/ hard rock! hell yea!!!

the sketchbook project 2012

life and times of an amusement park face painter

this a going to be a rather simple post, just a photo dump of a few of my face paints (on my self) from the past few weeks at work. we've got to paint our face everyday for work and on some days i've gotten a little creative somed days, not so much. i'm not posting any faces of other people because i don't have their permission to post their faces online and i don't want to over step anyone's personal boundaries. there's a few photos of things i've painted on my arm. those are from days where its been slow and i get kinda bored! enjoy!!

what i've been up to....

ello friends! well as you've all probably noticed its been pretty quiet around these parts lately. this is the dealio....i've been suuuper sick. there's some sort of cold/flu/stomach virus thing going around pittsburgh so its been my demise of recent. but i'm back and i'm trying to get back into the swing of things. but i wanted to share a little bit of what i've been up to during my sickness.

so far so good. its coming along well, so i'm pretty much pleased.

its amazing how much of a time suck the internet can be if you let it.

i wish i had a count of the hours that i've spent just muddling through people photos of FB.

it would probably be astonishing. and ghastly appalling.

well just want to check in for a sec and give you a little peek into what i've been doing since i've been doing everything except blogging! haha! i hoping to change that in the coming weeks. i swear when it gets cold and gloomy out side i just don't want to do anything. so when the weather gets a bit better i'm sure i'll be in higher spirits and there will be more fun here at O&C!!

and this, my darlings! is my latest project. i made a kaleidoscope a few years ago and have always been fascinated by them. ever since i was little, i wanted to figure out a way to capture all the gorgeous visions you seen in them but i wasn't sure how i wanted to go about. yes, i could certainly paint something like it but i just don't think that would do it justice. so a few weeks ago, i decided to take some photos of my kaleidoscope. i'm hoping to make prints of these soon, once i do a few little tweaks here and there to the original photos, just to make the colors pop a little bit more! so once i do i'll be sure to let you guys know, if you're interested!!

an art show.

if ya'll were wondering why the hell i've been to quiet and crytic. this is it. i've been busting ass trying to prepare for my first show. i've been painting like a mad woman so i can get everything done by Feb. 2, the date of the show. so far i think i've got about 10-15 pieces, some older pieces with a few brand new pieces thrown in. SO! if you're in the area, stop on by. i would love to see you and i want to share my awesome night with my buds. i'm super excited, yet completely terrified to be doing this, but i think it should be a great evening. i've got some of my best friends going to be there and i think with them by my side, i'll be good! and as soon as i finish up the last pieces for the show, i'll post some photos of them on here. and hopefully i'll be able to get some good photos from that night, so i'll be sharing those also. hopefully. wish me luck, you guys!!!! <3

painting progress: start to finish.

hello friends! i've got something rather neat for you today. recently i've been painting like crazy preparing for an upcoming show! so with one of my pieces, i decided to take a photo at ever step. it was kind of annoying during the whole thing, but i'm glad i did it. now you can see how a painting comes together step by step. i think its pretty awesome. this is seriously photo heavy so you have been warned!!! here we go!
