painting progress: start to finish.

hello friends! i've got something rather neat for you today. recently i've been painting like crazy preparing for an upcoming show! so with one of my pieces, i decided to take a photo at ever step. it was kind of annoying during the whole thing, but i'm glad i did it. now you can see how a painting comes together step by step. i think its pretty awesome. this is seriously photo heavy so you have been warned!!! here we go!

painting progress vol. 3 (skin)

hey all, i'm back with the Adele piece. i've been working on the skin. i'm far from done, but i thought i'd show you what i've got so far.

 

 i've been saving a copy of it every time i take a break. it gives you a better look at how things progress instead of a picture here, a picture there. one of these days i'll figure out how to record my screen shots as i paint so you guys can just watch a video. if you haven't seen one of these videos, your so missing out. 

this one is by an artist i found through deviantart. i like the style of the work, even though i'm not a huge manga fan (though i do have some favorites!).

that's about it for me tonight. i'm going to go pick up jessi and get ready for tomorrow. its going to be a long, crazy day. we've got the festival in the morning, then dad and i are helping my aunt out at a haunted trail later on in the evening where i'm going to be doing dad's, aunt becky and my own makeup! it's going to be a craaaaaazy day! but i promise to take a million pictures and jess and i will try to film a vlog in-amidst all the insanity!!

painting progress vol. 2 and a rant.

hey you guys...
i know it's been awhile since i did this segment. things have been super crazy lately but i had a minute today to work on this piece so i figure i should share it with you because...ya know....i said i would!

i'm working on the line work still. i've got to tweak the hair alittle bit more and maybe do alittle work on the face and then it's time for color!! yippee! it's my favorite part, i love painting the skin.

in other news, if you follow me on twitter @hollyerinn, you will already know this...but you know how yesterday i told you how excited i was about the photo shoot that we were doing??? yea. that didn't happen. i don't like to complain on here, everyone has problems and i try and keep this place as up beat as possible. but today, i've got to let off alittle bit of steam....
so, this is what happened. this young girl, from our area contacted me via etsy conversations looking for someone to photograph her so that she could build up her portfolio because she's trying to get into modeling. well, i thought this would be a wonderful opportunity for amanda, myself and this girl to all benefit. i've been wanting to photograph our jewelry work and hats and such and amanda can always use a new face to do her beautiful makeup on so i was all about it!
this girl was up my butt for about 3 weeks about getting this thing going. but as you all know, life has been insane for us girls around here lately so we scheduled it for yesterday. i told her this like over a week ago. so yesterday early afternoon, i get a message saying 'can't, you didn't get back to me soon enough' or something along those lines. WHAT??? i told you a week ago! and i messaged you a day and a half before the scheduled day to give you all the specific details!!!
to say the very least...i was mad (i'm trying not to cuss). amanda and i had everything set up for the shoot yesterday morning for everything to go down in the afternoon. ugggh....now we have to re-plan and reschedule the entire thing. i was really hoping to have a look book and gorgeous photos to share with you by monday. yea, that's not going to happen. alright, i'm done venting. we will get this done. i promise. if you made it through this entire rant, i'm proud of you. thanks for reading and dealing with me still being angry about some silly teenager being a silly teenager. but i've learned my lesson. i'm done.

painting progress vol. 1

hey guys!

so if you've been reading for even a minute...you'll have noticed i've been posting a good bit of my art. well i thought i'd start something new, something i really haven't done before. i'm going to post shots of my newest piece as i'm working on it. every time i sit down to work on it, i'll share a progress shot.

since i'm just starting this i'll start off with the reference photo i'm using. so you guys can see what its (hopefully) going to look like when i'm finished with it.

 

yup, i'm working on a portrait of adele. just for fun. i've been doing alot of really serious art recently and nothing for myself or just for fun. i've really been into her music of recent and i though i'd pay her homage by doing a portrait. 

so here's the first progress photo, it's not much. just a sketch but it'll give you an idea of how i start things off.

like i said, it's super rough and sketchy. but you get the idea. the more i do with it, the more i'll post.

what do you guys think of this idea? would you like to see more, do you have any interest in how i paint?
