It's a Jessi!

Hello there guys and dolls!
It has been quite some time since I posted! Don’t be alarmed, I never forgot about you lot. Though, some of you may not realize who I am. Allow me to formally introduce myself. I’m Jessi. You’ll see my profile above along with the wonderful Holly you know so well and the also elusive Amanda. (See that's me> you remember, the one known for crocheting?)
Do forgive my prolonged absence. Life gets in the way sometimes. Graduate school consumed my life. Then in March I had to have surgery on my gallbladder.  Over the past few months I’ve returned to crafting and after a conversation with Holly felt encouraged to return and I hope you will be happy to have me.
Now that we are reacquainted, let’s move on to the fun part of this post.

What exactly have I been up to craft-wise? Well, I've taken on a project of epic proportions!
I will say this project has grown massively out of control and taken on a life of its own. It's less a project and more a conquest. A beast I must vanquish, comparable to the 12 labors of Hercules!

Ok. Perhaps I exaggerate. I'm certainly not dealing with a Hydra, however, this project did start out as something quite simple.

It all began when my Learning and Behavior professor informed us we would be completing a project for the end of the semester. It required that we learn something and relate to the class what learning theory best connected to our learning process. All the technical mumbo jumbo aside, I jumped on the opportunity to bring a bit of crafting back to my daily life. I had always wanted to learn to crochet a star! Now was my chance. And learn I did! Now the question was, what do I do with a crochet star? Now I'm sure many of you could have thought of a simpler solution. One that would not require intensive time to complete. Attaching it to a hat or creating a hat out of it would have been simple and are still crafts I intend to complete. My mind, whether it be that I enjoy a challenge, or inflicting suffering on myself decided it would be great if I could turn the stars into squares.
I've mentioned my grandmother before. She's the one who taught me how to crochet and with her help we made simple work of devising a pattern to turn the star into a square.
Once I'd achieved making a square I had to decide what to make with the squares. That is when the brilliant idea struck me to make a blanket. That is when I created the design below.
The blanket is going to be enormous. I'm not even certain of its final measurements. I've estimated that once it is done it will be at least 8x6 feet if not slightly larger. I'm insane I know. There are 80 squares total. I've completed a total of 65. I have 50 of them that still need bordered with white. Then I'll need to attach them together and crochet a border of white around the blanket. Once I've finished the blanket I've several ideas for some hats with star motifs. I can't wait to see how they turn out. As always I love to hear from you guys so if you have any ideas, things you'd like to see, requests, or commissions please feel free to contact me. Just drop a line in the comments below. I'm glad to be back and I can't wait to share more of what I've been working on with you guys.

This and That and Animal Hats (Place your vote!)

Hello my Lovlies!!

Life is hectic as usual, but I can't complain at all. I've been enjoying the summer, preparing for fall and the approaching festivities it will bring. Excited? I'd say so! Though it will only make life more hectic I'm completely ok with that.

Spent some much needed time with the girls recently. Milkshakes, fresh squeezed sugary lemonade and a few handmade chocolates had us all ready to enter sugar induced comas. Yay for good times and good friends. Holly has other pictures from that day that are sure to entertain and I'm sure she'll share them soon.
I've been untangling yarn>>>
<<<<Making beanies
and squares for a new scarf I'm working on. I've mostly been trying to build up inventory for the approaching festivals in the midst of my crazy schedule.
Though I'd like to have a poll! I do hope you all chose to participate because I really could use the guidance in my inspiration. Which animal hat should I attempt next. I've done the fox hat and intend to make another of those. Which should be my next conquest? The bunny, the cat, or the bear? Post your vote below in the comments!!!!

Excitement and other lovely things

Hello all! Are you as excited about this art show as we are? If not you should be. I know I'm feeling even more motivated to create. Life has been busy for me as life tends to be for us all sometimes. My busy has been many good things, however. So worry not my dears for I am well.

I have sooo much to share with you today! I'm really excited about it. So let use begin!

Me! I've been being very crafty despite being so busy and if I have my way I will have some super awesome non-hat like things to share within the next few days. I'll give you all a hint just to tease you because I'm cruel like that. Feet. That is all I have to say. You will get no more from me....none....nothing....I am a fortress of secrets and obscurity. Poker face. P-p-p-poker face. So don't make the droopy cute eyes and beg, because I won't tell you. It will be much more fun when I surprise you I promise. ^_^ Lets move on to things I can tell you shall we?

I have finally finished the pink hat with its cute little cupcake cross-stitch. This took soooo much time to finish but it's so cute and was so worth the time I put into it. It so soft and warm and comfy. DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO SNUGGLE IT TO YOUR HEAD AND DRINK HOT CHOCOLATE!?! .....I thought so.....you share in my dream of chilly weather and snuggly hats......I knew I liked you guys. ^_^

I am in LOVE with this button. It was made for this hat and was just lying around my sewing box doing nothing. So I put it to good cute use. This hat is made for those of you who do not have a giant head {I have a big head....its ok....)

FLOWERS! Yes that is right, cute adorable beanies with cute
adorable flowers for a cute adorable head! ^_^.............

I will give you a moment to brush your teeth so you don't get cavities from all the sweet I just threw at you.

We good now?

Clean teeth?

No permanent damage?

Good good, moving on now.
I love this semi slouchy hat, the colors mesh together so perfectly. It almost reminds me of vanilla ice cream with caramel........now I'm making myself hungry.....geeze.....and I thought Holly was bad with all the yummy cupcake photos.....

I could not be more pleased with how this turned out. Its a hood that buttons around the neck to keep you all warm and cozy. More for cold weather yes, which is hard to think of now in August, but it will be here soon enough and I could not quash the inspiration to see how this would turn out. I am in love with it really. I hope you all like it as well.
Well that is all I have for you for now, but I will be back soon with more to share!
Please feel free to comment and share ideas or thoughts. I'm always inspired by suggestions.
Until Next time
