so i've been following this darling blog here at blogspot called Penguin & Fish and they just gorgeous little hand sewn patterns and other fun things, and today (just a few minutes ago) i realized they have an etsy shop. i'm alittle slow. get over it.
but there some really fantastic things in the shop and i'm probably going to purchase one of the embroidery patterns come next payday. it's going to be awesome!
i think it's going to be this one....
Penguin & Fish Etsy

so show some love to these amazingly crafty souls and show support for the craft world! it's really a lost art and when i see people crafting and making some just mind-blowingly amazing things its really inspiring and takes me back to a better time!

long live the crafters of the world!!

that's about all for today kids. the girls and i are having a meeting tonight, so there will be more fun news on the way!

douchey post thursday #2

hey there eeeeeverybody!

coco thought last week's douchey post thursday was pretty funny, so i think i'm going to keep it going. this week, my douchey-ness is all about posting pictures that i should have posted days days daaaaaaaays ago. that and things that i've had to keep a secret because they were presents. so here goes....
recently, quinn and i celebrated our 1 year anniversary. i made him a pair of hand-sewn dolls in our likeness. he thought they were cute, and now has them sitting on his desk. these things took forever to make, but it was fun and he really enjoyed them!

as you guys know, the gang and i helped celebrate our darling coco's birthday this past weekend...

this purse (and a bunch of other randomly fun stuff) was my present to her. i think i worked an entire day, just trying to make this thing perfect. i think she liked it!
after a little bit of chaos, we ended up at one of me and quinn's favorite restaurants,cambod-ican kitchen, they have some of the best food in pittsburgh! i highly recommend their seafood wontons! omigod, i could eat them everyday for every meal! i don't remember what they called this dish...but it has rice noodles, chicken, cucumber, peanuts and herbs in it. it smelled like the most heavenly bowl of summer. and soooo tasty.
this past sunday, of coarse, was easter. these are just a couple of the eggs that quinn and i dyed over at his mom's house. it was such a nice day. my dad came over, his sister, the baby and her boyfriend were there too! we dyed eggs, played with the baby, everybody took a nap and we watched tv. it was so relaxed and his mom made such a nice dinner!
so i was off this past tuesday and i always try and do at least one thing crafty on my day off. this is what i got into. i made some really neato pendants out of sculpty clay.
and then...painted them! i love when the weather starts getting alittle warmer and i can go outside and paint.
the next couple of pictures are of what i did.

i think the tiny mushrooms are probably my favorite. i'll be making more. i've still got to bend the wires and actually make them wearable. but i was letting them dry, i clear-coated them yesterday and now they're all shiny and adorable! those and the rest of these pendants will be for sale!

i'll be sewing alot more in a few days. and i really need to make some more jewelry. i'm working on cleaning out a space to work in my house. so that's taking up some time. but keep checking back, the girls and i are always working on things!!

XOXO,
holly

Coco loves Jason Williams, April's Army, The Audrey Project, Stuart Rose, Punchline, and 8 in 8.

So hey guys, I am thinking of starting a little section here where I link to shops and sites that are selling things or asking for donations to raise funds for various charities. I'll call this little segment "Coco loves [x]". So here it goes.

Currently I love:

Etsy Shop "For Jason" - All proceeds of this shop go to helping Jason Williams afford Pancreatic cancer vaccine treatments. The shop has wonderful bath and beauty products as well as some cute handmade accessories. Also helping Jason are the folks over at Regretsy. Regretsy site owner April Winchell has put together an army of Etsy-ers who will be donating handmade items to a special shop that will only be open for the last week of each month with all proceeds going to a new cause each month. Follow April's Army on Facebook, the April's Army Shop on Facebook, and April's Army on Twitter. I really hope the April's Army project keeps going for a good long while because I think it is wonderful and would love to have Order & Chaos donate some items to worthy causes.

The Audrey Project - Audrey is a seven year old girl with a disease that will soon rob her of her eyesight. Her aunt and uncle want to take her on a trip to Europe so that she can experience the sights of London and Paris before she loses the ability to see forever. They are asking for donations to help this girl see what she will never forget.

Stuart Rose - Stuart is a 21 year old marathon runner in the UK who is running for a very good cause. He runs to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, which he also has. He is very close to raising the target amount for his goal.

Punchline - I mentioned last night that the drummer of this band (which happens to be one of my favorites) was badly injured in a fight with the members of the God-awful scene band BrokeNCYDE (or however the hell they spell their friggin' name). Well the band has decided to release their latest album for the donation of your choice (FREE is an option) over at http://www.brokencydesucks.com/ . All they ask is for you to share the link like crazy. I also think it would be rad if you guys listened to their music and gave them some scrobbles on Last.fm since moving a band up in the charts is one of my favorite ways of showing support.

8 in 8 - What do you get when you throw Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer, Damian Kulash, and Ben Folds into a room for 8 hours and tell them to write 8 songs? You get a 6 track album titled "Nighty Night" to be downloaded for a donation of $1 or more with all proceeds going to http://berkleecitymusicnetwork.org/ . I'm going to download my copy right now.

Well, that's all I've got for you this time folks. I hope you enjoy the free and almost-free music, wonderfully priced soaps, and sheer joy of helping out your fellow man that I've offered today.

Love you all!
~Coco.

It's not too hot, it's not too cold. All you need is a light jacket.

OMG you guise! I'm doing that thing called posting. Inorite, WTF?

But seriously, it's Coco here. As myself and Holly mentioned, my birthday was Friday and I seriously had one of the most wonderful birthdays I have ever had even though I had to work it. The festivities started around midnight after I had just posted the blog containing the pictures of my nyan cat sampler with a ton of people texting me and Facebooking me before I even had the chance to register the fact that it was a new day. The trend continued overnight with me waking to over 22 notifications on my phone. I got up and got ready for work with sleepy mumblings of "happy birthday" from my brothers who stumbled out of bed pretty much as I was leaving (they had the day off from school for Easter break, lucky bastards) and then I went to work, where I was surprised at the number of customers who knew it was my birthday. All day long I had people wishing me a happy birthday. One cutsomer even bought me my favoritest candy; mallow cups! The sweet surprises continued with my mom dropping off a tiny cake with my dinner.
That surprise alone would have made my night but it turns out there were more to be had. It was about 9:00 when I got a wave of texts from family and friends including a "Happy Birthday, sorry I can't make it." text from my brother Josh who is apartment/cat sitting with his girlfriend for my older brother who is currently serving in Afghanistan. I wasn't really expecting him to be there so I wasn't too bummed out but apparently that text was just to psyche me out as he and Brittni showed up not 45 minutes later carrying another small cake.
They set it on the counter, lit the candles, and sang to me as I was counting the unsold newspapers at work. Then they boxed the cake up and told me they'd see me at home. I spent the rest of my shift fighting tears. When I got home I found the living room packed with people, mostly my brothers and their friends; and everyone gathered around YET ANOTHER petite cake and sang happy birthday to me again.
After all of that I opened my gifts from mom; a card with various gift cards and an I.O.U for a new edition Amazon Kindle and a microwave kiln for fusing glass. I know, an I.O.U sounds pretty weak but it is kind of tradition. The new Kindle won't be released until May 3rd and mom is notorious for ordering my gifts late and not factoring in shipping time. I would probably have heart failure if I had actually gotten my gifts on time. But I can't wait for them to arrive, because then I'll be able to do things like this.
and this
In addition to those gifts I also got some lovely ones from my friends.
I scored a handmade tote from Holly (along with candy and bubbles that I've already busted into) and adorable socks, makeup, and a slightly offensive compact mirror from Becca! The rest of my gifts came in the form of a lovely day out with friends on Saturday. First myself, Steve, and Becca headed down to Southside where we ate lunch at a wonderful Mexican restaurant.
Mmyeah, chile rellenos.

After lunch we hit up the shops and I got myself some fun stuff.
Namely a gorgeous indigo scarf, some nag champa, a vintage owl necklace, and some hemp. (Yes, I really am so boring that I bought supplies for jewelry making with my birthday money. I mean, are you really surprised? I asked for a glass fusing kiln as one of my gifts, after all.)
Isn't the owl necklace just so cute? And you don't even know the best part. A few weeks ago on eBay I bought myself the cutest little vintage elephant necklace in almost the exact same style as the owl.
Lookit them! They're like long-lost BFFs!

After shopping we met up with the rest of the cool kids who came out for my birthday. The original plan was to go to a hookah bar and chill but that ended up not happening for various reasons. But just when it seemed like all was lost and Coco was about to cry and be a total drama-whore the night was saved by Holly and her amazing boyfriend Quinn. Seriously, I cannot thank him enough for everything he did that night. He is totally one of the most down to earth and generous people I have ever met and he and Holly completely salvaged my birthday celebration.

Speaking of Quinn, I mentioned in an earlier post that I had given him a prototype piece for the MANLY; the man line line after he was kind enough to donate some materials to me. Well, I finally made the first one that will be available for sale (if anyone wants such a thing, that is.)
Here is the finished project; a tiny tabasco sauce necklace.
Yes, that is an actual tiny bottle of tabasco sauce. I strung it; unopened, on some 20lb natural colored hemp woven in a half-square knot pattern. I'll be cranking out more of these babies soon, including some on colored hemp and different thicknesses of hemp. Stay tuned!

Also in the works are some functional, affordable cross stitch pieces, handmade cross stitch tags, and more jewelry for the ladies. (I'm just waiting on the postal nazis to stop dragging their feet and deliver my supplies to get started on more awesomeness!).
My apologies for the image quality of these photos. Some were from my cell phone which is notoriously blurry and others were from my digital camera which has decided to be pixellated as hell after mom abused it.

Well, I'm off now. About halfway through blogging this I glanced at Facebook and saw a post by one of the members of Punchline saying that their drummer had been jumped by the clowns in the shitty ass punk band brokeNCYDE. The fucktards even bragged about it on their Twitter:
"Brokencyde vocalist David "Se7en" Gallegos also tweeted, "Crazy street brawl! Just fucked this guys face up. My bad!!!! BC boys destroyed those fools... BAD!""
Yeah, fuck shitty scene bands. I'm raging so hard right now. Taking my rage offline before I say something I'll regret.

Forever a Punchkid,
Coco.

XOXO,

Cats that are poptarts and say 'nyan', Earth Day, and someone's birthday.

Recently I've been posting and tweeting some very cryptic messages about super secret projects and I'm sure you've all been wondering what the hell I was talking about. As you know from previous posts, I have recently fallen back in love with cross stitch, a craft I was forced to learn during my days of Girl Scout incarceration. Back in my youth I found the process to be tedious and boring but as I grew a bit older I found it actually relaxed me but I would easily lose interest in the pieces I was stitching. I don't know, I guess I could never find a chart or kit that kept me interested long enough to finish; until I saw what the folks over at Steotch were doing. I couldn't believe it. Cross stitch samplers that were witty and meme-filled. And so began my long, dark re-descent into the craft. I started of by buying all of the patterns Steotch put out in their Etsy store. I was hard at work at recreating one of their samplers when I got a Facebook message from a friend linking me to a certain trending Youtube video.
About 30 seconds into the video I was searching my basket for blue aida and color-matching embroidery floss. Five days of nothing but work and stitching later; I bring you the finished project, and my first ever completed cross stitch sampler.
Nyan Cat Sampler. My tribute to the internet.

The sampler isn't perfect. I probably overdid it on the sparkles and stars, and could have placed my Order & Chaos signature elsewhere and planned it to fit easily within a spare frame I have but it is my first ever design and I was working without a pattern. I really don't think it turned out half bad though. I had a bit of help from Jennifer's Free Cross Stitch Pattern Generator and used the cross stitchified Arial font from http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/. Eventually I will be selling this piece in our Etsy shop.

Now that that is out of the way, I can focus on other cross stitch projects I've been neglecting like the large number of samplers I'll be making as gifts for friends and the few commissions I have, not to mention more cross stitch (and non) merch for the shop.

In other news, today is a very special day. IT IS EARTH DAY! Yey!!! Everyone go hug a tree and bitch at someone for littering and other Earth-friendly crap! Seriously, though; this is one of my favorite days of the year.

Oh, and it is also my birthday. As of 42 minutes ago I am officially 23 years old. I guess that means it is time for me to grow up and stop spending my time looking up stupid stuff on the internet. Yeah, that's so gonna happen. XD

Well, I'm off to deal with the mass amounts of texts and Facebook comments I am getting. Toodles!

XOXO,
Coco.

douchey post thursday!

ha! i don't know why i titled this with that.... it could be because i feel a little douchey sitting in panera while writing this, while looking uber cool....right.

hey kids! so yea, i know i promised frugal fridays this past friday...but i really can't remember at this point why i didn't post. lame right? but really, the last few fridays have been pretty crazy for me. so i think i may change the day at least. possibly tuesday. anyhoozle, i'm going to post them now so that i don't forget. these are from like weeks ago! i'm so bad at blogging right now. but i swear i'm getting back in the swing of things again.

now, children....i know you guys probably think i'm a lazy shit and don't do anything the days that i'm not posting. BUT i've been very hard at work, sewing my little fingers off for days! i've got a few projects that i can't post just yet, because they are birthday presents and late anniversary presents for my friends and my gorgeous boyfriend. so after this weekend, i will be able to post a couple of them! but don't worry, i do have some things to show to you today!

XOXO,
